Common Milkweed

These milkweed seeds were collected at the Bucknell Center for Sustainability & the Environment(BCSE), located on Fraternity Road, on Bucknell’s main campus.

In addition to serving as a host plant for Monarch butterflies, Milkweed also supports the Milkweed Tussock Moth, Milkweed Beetle, and the Milkweed Bug, among others. It is also a source of nectar and nesting material for many other species of pollinators and birds.

Showy Milkweed

In contrast to Common Milkweed, Showy Milkweed is native to the mid and western USA.

In addition to serving as a host plant for Monarch butterflies, Showy Milkweed also supports the Milkweed Tussock Moth, Queen Butterfly, Viceroy Butterfly, Milkweed Bugs & Milkweed Beetles, among others.
